Radiohalides Laboratory

How do you sample water for 129I?

Water is collected in plastic bottles with no preservatives added. Please do not label directly on the plastic bottle, as rubbing and movement during shipping can remove the ink from the plastic. Please use tape or a label with permanent marker to identify samples.

Can you analyze 129I in solid organic and inorganic materials?

Yes. For the analysis of 129I in solids, an alkali fusion technique or combustion technique is used. In some instances, the solid sample may be mixed directly with Nb, pressed into a target and analyzed on the AMS. Please contact us regarding this service in order to assess which technique will work the best.

Can you analyze 127I?

Yes, the 127I concentration is analyzed in our geochemistry laboratory via ICP-MS.
